FAQ

You should have your system inspected every year. Most manufacturers require this to keep any warranty valid. Lancaster Gas Techs offers this service for furnaces and air conditioners. In addition to inspecting your equipment we clean burners, coils, and drains so your equipment operates efficiently and reliably all year.

You should have your gas fireplace cleaned and inspected every year. Most manufacturers require this to keep their warranty valid. Lancaster Gas techs offers this inspection. In addition to the inspection we replace your ember material (the little things that glow), clean the glass, check the batteries in your remote, etc. so you can enjoy your gas fireplace whenever you want to.

Typical options for heat are Natural Gas, Propane, Oil, or electric. As you might know from our name we recommend natural gas and propane heating systems. Natural Gas and propane are the cleanest and most efficient fuels available now. Efficiency ratings of 98% are possible! The market outlook for affordable Natural Gas and Propane looks positive for years to come. Natural Gas is piped directly into your home, if you don’t have access to Natural Gas you can have a propane tank installed on your property and the fuel is delivered to your tank and used on demand. Lancaster Gas Techs installs gas heating systems. We can give you a free
estimate on converting from oil or electric heat.

Everybody loves a warm fire on a chilly night. It is in our DNA. There are several ways to make a warm fire. If you have access to wood, a place to store it and don’t mind the mess and work, maybe you want a wood fire place. Some people like a “pellet stove” but these require a place to store pellets, ash cleanup, and electricity to operate. Electric fireplaces are gaining popularity due to simple installation but these often look fake and don’t provide much heat. Gas fireplaces are a great alternative to all of the above. They don’t require electric, they provide significant heat, there is no mess to clean up, fuel is conveniently stored in a tank or piped into your house. All you need to do is turn it on (usually with a remote control) and you have your fire! Most gas fireplaces can operate from about $.25 – .40/hour.

Most HVAC equipment is warrantied for 5-10 years. Sometimes major components like heat exchangers or compressors are warrantied for longer, but the warranty provides the part only, often the labor involved in replacing these components makes the repair cost prohibitive.
With little maintenance you could expect the system to last the warranty period. With proper annual maintenance you should get the equipment to last well past the warranty period 12-15 years on average, often more. At some point it will be more cost effective to replace a system than to continue making repairs. We can help you make this decision by scheduling a free estimate or when we are completing a furnace or air conditioner service agreement.

It is late, cold and my heat is not working. Is there anything I can do myself?

  • Make sure all switches and gas valves are in the on position. Check your breakers to make sure they have not tripped.
  • For Heat make sure the thermostat is in the “heat” position, fan selector on “auto”
  • Some digital thermostats use batteries, usually AA or AAA. Check these.
  • If you use propane make sure you have propane in your tank and the tank(s) are turned on. They don’t need to be full but should show 5-10% or more.
  • Check your vents to be sure they are open and free of debris or snow.
  • If you have done all of the above and are still not getting heat please call us. We can do an emergency service call if necessary or will schedule the next available appointment for you.
